As the year is close to coming to an end, don’t lose the opportunity to take advantage of all the activities the city of lights has to offer. For the next couple of weeks there will be several festivals, concerts all around the city that you may attend.
For starters, the city is starting to get in the Christmas mood. If you’re lucky enough to be in Paris at this magical time, there are a number of activities you shouldn’t miss:
The Christmas showcase at Galeries Lafayette. It started on November 8 and will be up and running until December 30th. It’s free; enjoy the art nouveau decoration inside the building filled with lights. You’ll also find the famous Lafayette Christmas tree right there hanging from the glass dome. Submerge yourself into the Christmas spirit!
Other must sees on your list, go check out the Champs Elysees decoration. It will start the November 22 until January 8. More events in this world famous avenue include the New Year celebrations at Champs Elysees organized by the city hall, La Marie de Paris. You may also check out La Grande Parade de Paris on the Champs Elysees which will be held on January 1st with all the festivities to welcome the new year.
For Christmas market fans and artisanal work, check out the Village de Noel at La Defense. It’s just on the rim of Paris and easy to get to on metro line 1. It’s our version of Manhattan, filled with skyscrapers but architecurally speaking it’s a really fascinating place to visit. Starts on November 23 and stays up until December 28. This market spreads over 30,000 sq ft. More than 300 stands offering many different and regional delicacies and artisanship.
However, if you’re trying to steer clear of Santa, there are plenty of cultural and social events available.
Blue Note Festival
A jazz music festival, named after the renowned blue note record label. It will take place between November 14-19 in various Parisian venues such as New Morning (my favourite because you actually get to be real close to the stage, great vibe there!), Le Flow, Salle Pleyel and Elysée Montmartre.
Paris Cocktail Festival
Get ready to enjoy this year’s Paris Cocktail Festival from November 24-26. Each day has a different event that you may enjoy. Friday night the participants are taken to Le Dîner des Épicurieux which takes place in Paris’ 2nd arrondissement. Tickle your tastebuds with your 5 course menu assorted to each and every cocktail . A bus tour will start Saturday at Place du Trocadero and take you through the city’s historic landmarks while you are siping through good cocktails. Finally, Sunday’s event wraps up the festival with a gathering at the Elysée Montmatre. There will be tastings, conferences, tips and tricks on how to make your very own cocktails.
Two major music stars and big performances expected from:
Gorillaz on November 24 at the Zenith de Paris (211 Avenue Jean Jaures).
-Elton John at the Accor Hotel Arena (8 Boulevard Bercy) on December 1.
